Dr. Whitney has gone through extensive training on treating mechanical infertility to become a clinician for a multi-site research study and has been providing these services to her patients ever since. There are two main types of infertility that pelvic floor physical therapy can address:

Mechanical Infertility
Mechanical infertility refers to infertility caused by a physical or structural issue that prevents sperm and egg from meeting or implantation from occurring. In women, this can include blocked fallopian tubes, uterine fibroids, pelvic adhesions, or scarring from infections or surgeries. These mechanical barriers disrupt normal reproductive processes, making conception difficult or impossible without medical intervention.
Secondary Infertility
Secondary infertility is the inability to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term after previously having one or more successful pregnancies. It can be caused by age-related changes, hormonal imbalances, complications from prior pregnancies or births, scar tissue, structural issues, or lifestyle factors. Despite having conceived before, individuals with secondary infertility may require medical evaluation and treatment to achieve another pregnancy.
